Strava Segments in Real Life?

How awesome it would be to create videos solely based on Strava Segments, with leaderboards and KOM’s? - thought no one never, nor saw a need for such a feature. YET. And YET, I know someone who did already.

Think of Google Street View, in a video format, where no Google’s cars could reach. Also, YET. Everything is relative to the given moment in time! Did I mentioned about enhancing it with all sorts of other data? Not yet, thus keep on reading.

Where is the catch? If you are following me for a while, you can probably make a guess that it is about automation. If you don’t YET - then you already have a hint - its about automation. Think of it as the following simplified steps:

  1. Someone rides with camera turned on and captures his rides, as well as doing it with any wearable syncable with Strava.
  2. During the ride, most likely there are areas in the course, developed by Strava users aka Segments. Wherever the segment is created, you get all the data about that chunk in the map: all-time/yearly/daily leaderboards for riding times, segment stats and other things you normally see on Strava’s website.
  3. After the ride, all is needed is to transfer the footage to the storage, and get activity ID from Strava. Everything else is handled by automation.
  4. Outcome? Segment-related videos, from start to the finish, enhanced with data.

Obviously, that someone to-date is me - but eventually it could be turned into a mass-use tool as well. But we are here to distinguish whats already created.
